We have lined up three excellent speakers.  The talks will be followed by a Q&A session.

Lenders' duties after Branganza
Speaker:  Prof. Sarah Nield, Professor of Property Law at the University of Southampton
This talk will consider the scope of a lender's legal duty to act reasonably when exercising a discretion, including whether to call in an on-demand mortgage, to give consent to sell part of the security or to require a security valuation.

Revisiting Skelwith
Speaker: Camilla Chorfi, Falcon Chambers
 
This talk will consider the Law Commission’s proposals to clarify owner’s powers  and the powers of a chargee to deal with property under the LRA 2002.

The receivers’ power of sale
Speaker: Stephanie Tozer QC, Falcon ChambersThis talk will stress the importance of the source of the receivers’ power, and examine a recent unreported bankruptcy case.  

More about the speakers:

Prof. Sarah Nield is Professor of Property Law at the University of Southampton with research interests primarily in the fields of property law and equity, as well as company and commercial law; with particular focus on the impact of human rights to these areas. In relation to corporate lending her work considers security for loan capital and its role in the insolvency process. She is a member of the Secured Transactions Project which is formulating reform proposals to this area.

Camilla Chorfi practices at Falcon Chambers and undertakes work in all aspects of real property and commercial L&T. Camilla was a consultant lawyer involved in the recent Law Com project Updating Land Registration. 

Stephanie Tozer QC practices at Falcon Chambers, and does a variety of property litigation work.  She has a particular interest in receivership issues, being one of the authors of “Mortgage Receivership Law and Practice”.
